1) Yes the BBC IS anti-HE.
2) Waterloo Road is a crap melodrama which as I understand it (I wouldn't watch it if you paid me) regularly plays up any issue you care to mention for 'dramatic' [sic] effect. I would be stunned to hear that they were going to feature HE in a sensitive, respectful and accurate manner.

Just looked at your last comment again after reading Soley's moronic blog post and realise you're quoting him. He's just continuing to talk out of his arse IMO.

Lord soley wrote-I have to return to this subject as I am sure it will resurface when the House comes back in October. Indeed it may come back when the Commons returns in September

Those many well meaning people who wrote voracious comments on this a few months ago do need to look at the report on the death of Khyra Ishaq. the Report stated “The mother’s sound knowledge of home education legislation and a hostile and aggressive approach influenced and affected professional actions, preventing a full understanding of conditions within the home and seemed to render professionals impotent, thereby directing the focus away from the welfare of the children”.

It would be just too easy to blame the social workers for this. There is a problem if parents know they can take their children out of school without further intervention by anyone. The more home education spreads the greater the danger. If we are to have a successful home education sector then there does need to be regulation. I remember saying at the time of the previous debate that any future government was likely to return to this. The case of Khyra Ishaq makes my point with cruel clarity.

does he know something is a foot with home education? has he been told something by Gove?

firebird says-What we need is time to work on our LAs and general positive PR so when they do finally get to us, which they will, we will be able to point to examples of really good practice which show that changes in the law are not needed.

That was tried before the Badman report if you work with your LA it all be ok but has we found out from most LA's who sent answers back to Badman they revealed what they really though of home educators! yet they where telling home educators something different!

I dont think those civil servants who advise Gove over home education have gone quiet do you?

If Gove likes home education so much why does he not say so? and he can reject all those reports about a register for home educators but Gove has not done this is it becuase he does not want to upset the senior civil servants who advise him on home education?

Quiet is GOOD.

Seriously quiet, leaving us the heck alone is the best thing we could ask for. The last thing we need is this government taking any interest in EHE for the next couple of years. What we need is time to work on our LAs and general positive PR so when they do finally get to us, which they will, we will be able to point to examples of really good practice which show that changes in the law are not needed.

All I've heard so far is that GS says that Gove hasn't 'gone native'.

firebird says-They need some enforcement, one or two head teachers getting fined and/or fired should concentrate minds nicely.

I agree with you but Gove?con/lib party will not enforce any fines against head teachers or fire any! if any anything Gove will attempte to cosy up to head teachers maybe he go along to the teachers union anunal conference telling them what a wonderful job they all do!

as i have said Gove has been very quiet about home education not the actions of a man who is supposed to fully support it! i wonder if those civil servants have been briefing him on what he should do to home educators?

But it's another one of those cases where the laws already exist, they don't NEED new ones. They need some enforcement, one or two head teachers getting fined and/or fired should concentrate minds nicely.

Thankfully Gove does NOT show any signs of the kind of knee-jerk over legislation that we got from the previous lot where the answer to every single perceived problem was a new law.

there are no new laws being brought forward by the con/lib party over this matter? unless you know that Gove is going to agree to this? sometimes he is a little quiet over all of this!
